Volunteer!

Meals on Wheels could not exist without volunteers — they are the “driving force” behind our mission!

Consider this:

  • Every day, each volunteer travels an average of 19.8 miles to deliver 17 meals.

  • In 2009/10, volunteer drivers contributed 36,338 hours of their time to deliver meals.

  • Volunteers drove a total of 880 miles a day to deliver 350,000 meals to 1,300 older adults.

  • Volunteers use an estimated 15,253 gallons of gas per year at a total cost of $114,000 (@ $.50/mile).

Our volunteers provide more than JUST a meal. Each day, they check on their clients as they deliver their meals. For some clients, the Meals on Wheels volunteer is the ONLY person they see during that day. Volunteers are their connection to a community where they were once active.

Volunteering is flexible!

Whether you can volunteer two days a week or two days a month, your help is deeply appreciated!

For more information on how you can become a Meals on Wheels volunteer call
(610) 691-1030 or fill out our on-line form:

(MEALS ON WHEELS OF NORTHAMPTON COUNTY ON-LINE VOLUNTEER FORM)

You will then be contacted by a Meals on Wheels Volunteer Specialist. We currenly have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

Drivers
Use your own vehicle to deliver meals to clients within a specified geographical area (10:30 AM to 12:30 PM).

Runners
Be the person who takes the meal from the car to the client (10:30 AM to 12:30 PM).

Care Callers
Phone our clients from your home to check on them on those days during the winter or holidays when meals are not delivered. (Clients receive “Blizzard Boxes” at the beginning of the winter — shelf-stable meals that they reserve for days like this.)

FoodLine
Take a client’s grocery order over the phone … go shopping … and deliver it directly to their home. This is ideal for volunteers who cannot volunteer during the day. Grocery shopping may be done during the day or early evenings.

Corporate Teams
Are you looking for a team-building experience for your employees? Can your workplace spare a few hours each month? Delivering meals as a corporate team is an excellent way to give back to the community.

And, keep in mind -- as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, you will be helping not only your neighbors in need, but yourself. The personal rewards, such as giving back to the community and interaction with other great volunteers and clients, are just a few of the many benefits!
