Listening Ear

Meals On Wheels of Northampton County has established a “Listening Ear” program which provides our clients with the opportunity to talk to a Meals On Wheels volunteer on a regular basis. This is especially beneficial for our clients who live in isolated areas away from their families.

A volunteer will be assigned to a client and will call them on a weekly basis, or every other week to converse about lighter topics relevant to the day – such as current events, the weather, or plans in their lives. (Please note that we ask our volunteer callers to refrain from engaging in conversations about financial issues or matters that are of an extremely personal nature).

If the volunteer discovers that the client is in need of any other services, he/she will contact the Meals On Wheels office for further assistance by one of our two, full-time Case Managers.

Our Meals On Wheels Case Managers perform numerous services, including: visiting prospective clients, notifying a client’s physician(s) when one of their patients begins a meal program, performing annual reassessments and nutrition screenings at program start, reassessment, and terminations, as well as providing referrals to other social service programs in the area.

To sign-up for our Meals On Wheels of Northampton County Listening Ears program, please call 610-691-1030 and ask for Monica McCandless, Director of Client Services.
