Menu Options

Special menu options include hispanic, diabetic, renal, pre-cut, pureed, soft and more.Meals on Wheels has a 5-week rotating menu prepared by a Staff Nutritionist and meets strictly regulated PA dietary guidelines for older adults. Each meal contains 1/3 RDA, providing clients the proper amount of vitamins, minerals, calories, etc., as well as a wide variety of foods from the basic food groups.

All meals are low sodium, low fat, and low cholesterol.

REGULAR
Each meal is low salt <2 gm.), low fat, low cholesterol, ranging between 700-800 calories and meeting the needs of a liberal bland diet.

HISPANIC MEALS
Authentic recipes and skilled prepartion combine to make our Hispanic meals tasty and balanced.

DIABETIC
Each meal is low salt (less than 2g), low fat, low cholesterol, and low concentrated sugar. Meals range from 650-800 calories and follow the guidelines of the ADA diet. Occasional sweet desserts are calculated into the caloric allowance.

RENAL
Two daily meals consist of:

  • 2-2.5 gm. Low sodium
  • 1-1.5 gm. Potassium
  • 1-1.5 mg. Phosphorus
  • 70-80 gm. Protein
  • 1200-1500 Calories

MODIFICATIONS
MS (Mechanical Soft):
Food is hand-cut for people with arthritis, poor vision, or cutting difficulty.

Dental Soft: Foods not naturally soft are chopped into small squares for people with chewing or biting problems.

Pureed: Food is a thick liquid consistency for people with swallowing problems.
